Ways to enlarge text on your screen

There are several ways you can zoom in or magnify text in our site. You may also find your browser manufacturer's website helpful.

If you have a mouse with a scrolling wheel

To enlarge text, hold down the Control key while rotating the mouse wheel towards you.

To reduce text size hold down Control and spin the wheel away from you. This will step you through a range of four text sizes.

Please note - if you use Internet Explorer 6, this trick may not work with some external websites.

Change your zoom or magnify settings temporarily

Select View then Text Size (also called Text Zoom in some browsers) from the menu bar at the top.

For a permanent solution

If you find the text difficult to read, change some of the default settings of your browser. This will alter the way all web pages appear on your screen. Depending on which browser and computer system you are using, these can be found in either the Tools/Options or Edit/Preferences menus. Choosing a larger font size will mean that pages will be delivered to you with larger text, which will be easier to read.

If you have a visual impairment

You'll find helpful advice from the RNIB website - using your PC.

Shortcut keys

You can navigate around our site to some of the main sections using a simple set of shortcut keys, known as access keys. Pressing the right letter or number along with a second 'go' key will jump you to those pages. Which key is your 'go' key will depend on your computer. Instructions are at the foot of this page.

The access keys used on this site are as listed below:

1    Home page
2    Our business
3    Our people
4    Our customers
5    Building homes
6    News & resources

How to use these access keys

Windows Internet Explorer users - in Windows Internet Explorer press (and hold) the 'Alt' key with the access key you want, then press Enter. For example, for the home page press 'Alt' and 1 then Enter.

Apple Mac users - use the 'Ctrl' key with the access key.

Firefox users - for version 1.0 to 1.5, press (and hold) the 'Alt' key with the access key you want. For version 2.0 press Alt-Shift. Most other browsers will take you straight to the page with no need to press Enter after the key combination.
