Investor in People

The Group has maintained the Investor in People standard since 1996. It is a nationally recognised level of good practice for training and personal development to achieve organisational goals. We are currently one of 30,000 organisations working within this standard.

In Business for Neighbourhoods adopter

The Group is an active supporter of this National Housing Federation initiative designed to raise awareness of the social housing generally and to demonstrate our commitment to invest in places and people, not just buildings.

Empire Square - Building For Life Gold Standard

The Group's transformation of one of the largest brownfield sites in London into a mixed-use scheme with partners Berkeley Homes, received a Building for Life Gold Standard Award on 18 September 2007. The award was recognition of the development at Empire Square, Southwark which now provides more than 570 homes, 212 of which are affordable with 79 for rent and 133 for shared ownership.

Building for Life is the Government-endorsed benchmark for well-designed housing and neighbourhoods in England. It is awarded to new housing projects that demonstrate a commitment to high design standards and good place making.

Wansey Street - British Homes Awards 2007

Wansey Street has received a Commendation at the British Homes Awards, sponsored by The Mail on Sunday. The Commendation was in the Affordable Housing Development of the Year category.

Gallions Park - British Homes Awards 2007

One Gallions received the Project of the Year award. One Gallions is the consortium made up of Crest Nicholson, BioRegional Quintain and Southern Housing Group, and is the preferred development partner for the zero carbon development at Gallions Park, LB Newham. 

National Home Office Respect Award for Taking a Stand 2006

Given to a Foundation-led project The Golden Valley Committee, Folkestone, Kent, which re-established respect and opened up lines of communication between older and younger people on the estate, 2006.

Best Charitable Sector Work Experience 2006

The Group was highly commended for our graduate trainee scheme at the National Council for Work Experience Awards, 2006.

Public Housing Architecture 2006

Wansey Street in Southwark developed by the Group without grant-funding, received an architecture award in November 2006. Architects, de Rijke Marsh Morgan (dRMM) received the award for the Best Public Housing Scheme run by Building Design.

Champion of Design Award 2004

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment gave this award to Group Chief Executive Tom Dacey as a tribute to the work of the Group staff and development partners.

The Housing Corporation Partnership Programme 2004

The group was chosen as one of the first 71 partners in this programme that has transformed the way the Corporation allocates development funding.

Two Gold Standard Building for Life Awards 2004

These awards set national standards for good housing and neighbourhoods and were given for developments at Brewery Square, Clerkenwell and Gainsborough Studios, Hackney.

Champion of Design Award 2004

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment gave this award to Tom Dacy, Group Chief Executive, as a tribute to the work of the Group staff and development partners.

What House? Gold Award 2003

Awarded for the Best Partnership Development along with partners Berkley Homes and Greenwich Council for work at Royal Arsenal, Woolwich.

Affordable Home Ownership Award 2003

SHHO won the best Partnership and Contribution to Regeneration Award for the New River Green development in Islington.

What House Gold Award Best Development Partnership Agreement 2002

Awarded to the Group, along with partners Countryside Properties and London Borough of Hackney for the Millennium Plus scheme on the Nightingale Estate in Hackney.

Construction Clients' Charter Status Award 2002

We were one of the first housing associations to be awarded this, which sets new standards for the construction industry.
