Young Southern Housing Group residents living at Fieldgate Mansions in Tower Hamlets celebrated the completion of their community mural on Saturday 8 May 2010.

Southern Housing Group commissioned environmental regeneration charity, Groundwork London, to work with young people living on the estate to design and create a mural that represents the values of the community.

The resulting design is a colourful wall depicting plants and wildlife, woven together by Bengali and English phrases.

Project Manager, Dirk Lampe, said: “The children wanted to create the impression of community cohesion and a flourishing environment, which I think they have captured admirably in their mural.

“The mural idea took shape after sessions with the young people exploring the activities they wanted to do to enhance their surroundings. We wanted to work with our young residents to realise their vision for the estate and help give them a sense of pride in their environment.”
