Phoning the Service Centre
We use a telephone translation service to provide interpreters in over 100 languages. To speak to someone in your own language, call the Service Centre to ask for an interpreter. We will take your details and get an interpreter to phone you back, usually within 15 minutes. We can then have a three-way conversation with the help of the interpreter.
Bengali and Turkish phone lines
Phone lines have been set up for our Bengali and Turkish residents. If you call one of these lines, you hear a message recorded in your own language, giving you the option to press 1 for maintenance, 2 for rents and 3 for tenancy enquiries. You then hear a message explaining that you are about to be put through to an English-speaking Customer Service Advisor, who will arrange for a translator to be on hand for a three-way conversation. Because you have rung our special line, the advisor already knows that you speak Bengali or Turkish and can contact Language Line straight away.
In person
If you need translation help at other times, perhaps at a meeting or when we visit you, we may send a member of staff who speaks your language. We can also provide written information in different languages on request.
