Caring for our sheltered housing customers, in big and small ways
Our sheltered housing customers have told us they’d like to have more regular, face-face-contact, so we’ve been working hard to make that happen.
Suzanne Kay, othe Group's Area Services Manager (Sheltered), said: “It’s been a busy few weeks as we've worked to recruit the right people. It’s really exciting to see the changes already starting to make a real difference to our customers.”
These changes will see a Scheme Services Coordinator be based in each scheme daily, Monday to Friday. They'll be on hand to help residents access our repairs service, carry out health and safety checks, work to make sure customers have access to local services, and support customers with local community activities.
It’s a new approach mirroring the successful service we already deliver in our sheltered housing schemes on the Isle of Wight, and is designed to help our sheltered housing customers feel safer and more secure in their homes.
One of our Scheme Services Coordinators, Ann Richmond, organised ‘mince pie and chocolate log’ get-togethers this week for residents at two of our sheltered housing schemes, Orchard Court in Bracknell and The Chestnuts in Reading, and residents who took part had positive things to say about the improvements at their scheme. One resident commented: “It’s so nice having someone here every day.”
Ann said: “The changes have really pleased residents at both schemes. We had a good turnout for our Christmas parties, including some of our more isolated residents who tended not to meet with other people who live there. Seeing everyone so happy has really lifted my spirits.”
Other festive events have been taking place at our sheltered housing schemes Group-wide, designed to help bring residents together during what can be a lonely time of year for many older people.
Suzanne concludes: “It’s important that we care, both in small ways – such as our Christmas events – and through larger initiatives, such as increasing staff presence at our schemes.”
