Looking for a home
Making lives better
Led by Tina Stuart, Registered Service Manager for Southern Housing Group, the Domiciliary Care Agency (DCA) provides personal care and support to 50 Island residents with a variety of care needs, including learning disabilities, physical care needs, memory loss, and mental health needs.
The Care Quality Commission inspection assessed whether the Group’s DCA was safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led, and the service achieved a ‘good’ rating in all aspects.
The report found that:
People and their relatives told us they felt safe and trusted the staff from Southern Housing Group’s DCA who supported them in their homes. A relative said "l feel [my loved one] is very safe with them"
The service had received written thanks from relatives and people which praised the care that had been received. One written compliment from a person said: “Thank you for helping me get my life back together.” Another, from a relative, read: “Nothing really fazed any of the team. They acted professionally and impartially with their main focus being on [my loved one].”
People and relatives told us that staff treated them in a caring and kind way. A family member said: "They are so very good with [my loved one]". Care staff told us, "l love my job and love the people" and "l will always treat people how I would want to be treated."
The inspection was carried out by a CQC inspector and an ‘expert by experience’, who spoke with service users, their relatives, and relevant staff from Southern Housing Group. The inspection looked at how the service was run, including care records and records related to the management of the service, recruitment, training, and how the quality of the service is monitored.
Tina said: “Supporting people with diverse needs and helping them remain independent in their homes is very rewarding. Care staff may be the only people our customers see on a daily basis. The report reflects the hard work and commitment of the whole team and demonstrates what we do well. It shows that we go above and beyond to ensure the needs of people we care for are met.”
Naomi Keyte, Head of Sheltered and Care Services for Southern Housing Group, said: “This rating is a fantastic result and great recognition for everyone who works so hard to ensure the success of our domiciliary care service. I’d like to say a big thank you to the customers and colleagues who are part of our DCA service, especially Tina Stuart.”
In addition, a recent survey done by Health Watch Isle of Wight, of people receiving domiciliary care on the Island, showed the Group’s DCA service was regarded positively by customers who completed the report.
