First residents move into Ryde Village in time for Christmas
The first residents have moved into Ryde Village the new £18m specialist extra care scheme on the Isle of Wight that has been designed to specifically support the needs of residents.
Each home has been built to discretely aid people as their needs increase with time.
Over 55s can now live in a peaceful environment with the knowledge that there is a Wellbeing Team available 24 hours a day, should they need care and support.
Naomi Keyte, Head of Sheltered and Care services at Southern Housing Group, said: “We are thrilled to be part of this unique development supporting the Island’s community.
“Ryde Village provides older people and people with a care and support need, the opportunity to remain living independently in their own home with responsive care available 24/7.” Residents can also benefit from an on-site laundry, assistive bathrooms, emergency call buttons, lifts, a hair salon and an essential onsite shop. They will also be able to enjoy socialising in the modern, spacious communal lounges or relax in the sensory garden.
Mr Sloper, one of the new residents, said: “I feel like I have won the lottery.” Ms Scambell, the other resident, added: “I love it here. The staff are lovely, and I have my own flat which is very big as I like to have my own space.”
Vicky Brent Watson, our Registered Manager, explains: “The atmosphere at Ryde Village is amazing, residents are so happy, and they are really looking forward to a fantastic Christmas.
“Everyone is settling into the scheme so well, there is such a wonderful feeling of helping the residents.
The development, which Southern Housing Group will operate and manage was supported with £5m of grant from Homes England and Morgan Sindall (Later Living) brought in Funding Affordable Homes (FAH) to own and fund the affordable elements of the scheme.
The extra care scheme is the first of its type on the island. It comprises 63 one bed apartments and 12 two bed apartments in a building that contains the communal and care facilities. Next to the apartment block are 27 two bedroomed bungalows available on a shared ownership basis and these will also benefit from the care and support services available on site.
