Customers at David Smith Court in Reading wanted to take control of the green space in their estate and have got the garden looking prim and proper.
After the gardens had become a popular place for fly tipping, our customers at David Smith Court got in touch with site manager Tom O’Malley to work together with him to clear it.
Fred, has been heavily involved with the work going on at the scheme and has become a spokesperson for the rest of the customers there. He often works in the gardens to make sure it is maintained but also checks in on other customers to see how they are, doing their weeks shopping for them and assisting carers too.
The hard work at the gardens has paid off as it is now looking fantastic. With the rubbish now gone, there is much more space for our customers to grow their own vegetables. Any surplus vegetables will be given to customers who struggle financially.
Site Manager Tom said: “Fred does a lot for the community here, hence why we jumped at the opportunity to help him and the other residents with the communal gardens.”
If any of our customers would like to get involved with helping out with works on their scheme, please get in touch with your Housing Services Manager on your local number.
