Southern Works were on hand at the recent Your Future careers and education fair at Isle of Wight College to talk about the Group’s employment and training service.
Sponsored by Isle of Wight Council, this free event was aimed at all residents of the Island looking for work, apprenticeships, training, or considering their next steps.
Employment Skills Officer for the Isle of Wight, Natalie Betchley, and Employment Skills Officer for Portsmouth, Julie Hoggatt, hosted a Southern Works information stand at the fair, and spoke to some of the 740 people in attendance.
Natalie explained: “The day was very successful with lots of positive feedback and networking. It was a good opportunity to talk to Islanders about the free employment and training service we offer Group customers on the Island, including help and support with employment skills such as CV writing, improving motivation, and finding volunteering and work placement opportunities.”
Natalie and Julie also spoke to people about Southern Works’ walk-in digital job clubs in Ventnor and Freshwater, which are open to all. The clubs offer help and support tailored around people’s personal situations and needs, including help with using computers to find employment and training.
The 27 October event attracted around 50 exhibitors, a dozen universities, and several Island-based schools.
