Southern Housing Group is investing in Cyprus Street
A year ago we launched a consultation process about the future of Cyprus Street. We’ve been speaking to a lot of residents and, thanks to their feedback, we’ve examined and considered a number of possibilities, including fully redeveloping the scheme.
Last November, we put the final two options to a vote – the majority of residents voted for basis refurbishment and improvements for Cyprus Street. Hence we’ve developed designs to refurbish all of the existing homes, enhance the scheme’s living environment, and build a new community room.
We’ll be submitting our planning application next week. You should receive a letter from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, which will give you the opportunity to comment on our proposals on their website.
Providing an enhanced living environment
We’ll be making improvements to the scheme’s living environment and landscape to maintain a natural feel. This will include new planted areas, improved pathways, new children play areas, additional seating, and improvements to boundary wall and railings across the scheme. We’ll also improve lighting to enhance safety on the scheme.
Building a new community room
The new community room will be located at the back of Old Ford Road.
It’ll be a large flexible and accessible space, available for hire to host a range of social activities e.g. fitness classes, parent and child groups, homework clubs, and cultural events.
Cyprus Street, new community room timeline
We’ll start works in early 2019 and currently expect to complete them in a year.
