We're working with DW Support Services to deliver social value on the Isle of Wight
We’re working alongside DW Support Services on the Isle of Wight to develop a successful handyperson service that provides valuable work experience for our customers as part of our social value programme.
When companies work for us, we ask them to provide extra benefits to our customers as part of their contract, which we call social value. All our contractors must agree to meet a minimum standard of social value. This may include employment and training opportunities for customers, supporting customers with their health and wellbeing, or enhancing the communities in which our customers live.
DW Support Services provides maintenance, repairs and refurbishment works on our properties on the Isle of Wight. When they partnered with us last year to provide this service, they made a commitment to join our social value programme.
To meet this commitment, they’ve been working with us to provide a successful handyperson service for our customers on the Isle of Wight. The project, which has been running since January, offers work experience for two days a month to customers looking to gain experience and knowledge of carrying out minor repairs.
The handyperson service offers free repairs to our more vulnerable and supported customers across the Island, and has so far carried out 65 jobs.
One customer remarked: “I was very happy with this service and would recommend it to others. He was nice and took care of my belongings, and didn’t damage the bookcase when he’d finished with it.”
