Looking for a home
Making lives better
Eligible residents supported are either shielding, isolating, furloughed or awaiting benefit payments. Where possible those residents have been referred to either Government or local support and whilst they have no food and no-one to support, I then support.
I contact residents (or either receive shopping lists from our team) to ask what shopping they need. I then go and purchase the items and deliver to their homes at a safe distance. I have also collected prescriptions and dropped them off to other residents.
I have a number of regular residents for whom I’ve completed three or more shops for, so I have now built up a bit of a rapport which is nice. The other day, one of them, a gentleman who has not been out during lockdown, asked me what it was like out there? That brought it home to me that he only knows from what he sees on television. Another gentleman I regularly shop for, now opens the door to me and has a chat as compared to when I first started going, he would hide behind the door.
All the residents that I have shopped for have been so grateful for the support provided by Southern Housing Group and thankful for me doing their shopping.
On average I shop for up to five residents as one time, which as you can imagine can be a bit challenging given you have to guy everything in sequence now as you walk round a supermarket. I have on a few occasions had help from my daughter which has been a big plus. You see she works for the NHS so there’s no queuing!
I have really enjoyed doing the shopping and continue to do it weekly.
