A key part of what we at Southern Housing Group do is our commitment to our social objectives. As well as providing good quality homes we want to makes our customers’ lives better and build strong communities.
Our forum members have worked on several projects to help make lives better:
Bags of Taste
Food poverty is a major issue in the Borough of Islington and whilst the local authority have introduced a number of initiatives to tackle this, council budget cuts are making this more difficult every year.
We worked with a partner organisation to offer a four stage cooking and behavioural change programme aimed at motivating participants to regularly cook their own meals on a £1 per head budget.
We asked our forum members to feed in their opinions on the project and gave them the opportunity to volunteer at some of the sessions.
Over the summer, we organised a kids’ five-a-side football tournament to bring together the community around Dalston Lane. The children were also offered indoor activities as well as food and drink.
We asked our forum members for help decorating and setting up the venues, helping out with indoor activities and football matches, preparing and serving food and supporting our consultation activities with the families of the children.
