About this role:
We're committed to tackling the social and economic exclusion that many of our customers face. One way we do this is by helping customers access digital resources. Our laptop loan scheme offers laptops for loan to customers who may not have access to IT facilities.
We're looking for volunteers to help us deliver the scheme, working closely with our Digital Skills Development Officer.
What you'll be responsible for:
Updating and refreshing laptops – removing existing accounts and updating and scanning laptops
Preparing laptops for loans - adding new guest accounts and setting up accounts as required. Ensuring requested programs are downloaded and can be easily accessed.
Preparing information for loans, including simple step by step guides that may have been requested by a customer (for example, on how to set up an email account) and information on usernames and passwords associated with the loan.
Updating spreadsheets, ensuring all requested information is correct before laptops are loaned
Testing and updating Samsung tablets – we use tablets for events and workshops, which need to be updated regularly. You may also be required to download applications onto tablets when required.
What you need to know:
Locations may occasionally change within London, but this will be arranged in advance with volunteers.
Specialist IT equipment can be provided for volunteers with additional support needs.
Volunteers will be supported on all aspects of this role through supervised sessions and regular one-to-one meetings and reviews.
Skills or experience needed:
Confident IT user
Experience with MS Office products
Strong time management skills
Attention to detail
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work independently
Previous experience with computer maintenance and repair
Apple product knowledge (Mac OSX, iPad, iPhone)
Android product knowledge (Samsung tablets)
Good troubleshooting skills using logic and common sense
Ability to assist in multiple projects
Ability to comprehend and apply technical information and present technical information to residents in a non-technical manner
