About this role:
The Stifford Centre are recruiting volunteer Health Champions from Tower Hamlets to support and advise people who are keen to lead healthier lives. You’ll be helping people make lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, losing weight, and decreasing their alcohol intake.
This role will give you the chance to learn about health and wellbeing in your community, as well as gain a Royal Society for Public Health Improvement Level 2 qualification in understanding health improvement.
What would you be responsible for?
Supporting health and wellbeing activities and events across Tower Hamlets
Working closely with other health and social care organisations
Signposting clients to relevant services
Registering clients to healthy lifestyle programmes
Co-ordinating health sessions (for example, walking sessions and swimming classes)
What you need to know:
You must be over 18 and a resident of Tower Hamlets
Hours for this role are flexible to suit both you and the needs of Health Trainers
Your travel and food expenses will be covered
One to one support and supervision will be provided
Skills or experience you’ll need for this role:
Excellent verbal communication skills in order to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including older people and those who have English as a second language
Basic knowledge of healthy living
A commitment to and understanding of equal opportunities and diversity
Basic knowledge of organisations, services, and communities in Tower Hamlets
Excellent interpersonal skills
Reliable and committed; able to meet deadlines
Ability to treat clients with dignity, confidentiality, and respect
Good organisational skills
