About this role:
Read Together is a non-profit organisation that promotes reading for pleasure and therapeutic benefit. Therapeutic shared reading aloud helps to decrease isolation, build confidence, and improve mental wellbeing. Outcomes include relaxation, stimulation and controlled social interaction.
As a volunteer reader, you’ll be helping deliver a reading aloud group in Stamford Hill. Each session is self-contained, allowing people to join or leave at any time. All reading materials and delivery methods are selected for specific client groups to encourage discussion.
This is a great role if you are thinking of becoming a teacher or working with those with supported needs.
What would you be responsible for?
Reading a short story and/or a poem aloud, linked by a relevant theme, with pauses for discussion.
What you need to know:
Free training and ongoing support will be provided.
Skills or experience you’ll need for this role:
A passion for books and storytelling
An ability to work well with people especially in a group
A desire to share stories with others
The ability to read confidently aloud
