Following the fire at Grenfell Tower, all owners of tall buildings have been checking to make sure that the materials used in their construction comply with government guidelines.
Southern Housing Group (the Group) is the landlord of the East Block of Gainsborough Studios and this testing has taken place at the same time as the rest of the development.
What has happened so far
We have received a copy of the external façade survey report for whole Gainsborough Studios development carried out by FR Consultant on behalf of Gainsborough Studios Limited (GSL) and managing agents IDM Property Management Ltd (IDM).
The report highlighted an issue with the render and insulation in several areas including on the courtyard elevation of the East Block along with issues concerning the use of timber throughout the development. We have reviewed the content of the report to understand the implications for the East Block and have worked with fire engineers to develop a proposed remedial plan.
In December 2020, we issued a Notice of Intended Works to leaseholders, and opened the first stage of a Section 20 consultation process requesting leaseholders observations and nominations for contractors.
This initial consultation period closed in January, and we have now issued our response, alongside the scope of works and estimating costs. These can be found in the Important Documents section below.
Following the submission of Southern Housing Group’s joint application to the funding body, the GLA, we have been advised that despite meeting all required deadlines, due to the large number of applications being received unfortunately our application will not now be reviewed at the funding board meeting of 10 March 2021 as first hoped. We now expect our application to be reviewed at the next meeting on 24 March 2021 where we are hopeful that funding will be approved. Read more about this here.
