The Scrutiny Panel is an integral part of the organisation’s governance structure. The panel will report directly to the Group Board and is made up of 6 residents, including 2 home owners. It is responsible for ensuring that the resident’s voice is heard at the highest level and will hold Southern Housing Group to account by commissioning scrutiny exercises and make recommendations for consideration by the Board. The Panel is a direct link between residents and the Board.
At their meetings they will analyse our performance, give feedback and make recommendations. They’ll identify areas of our service to scrutinise in greater detail and work closely with other committees to make sure we’re complying with our values.
This group uses performance information to identify areas for in-depth scrutiny reviews, in a similar way to audits. The group will focus on customer-facing services (for example repairs or complaints).
The Resident Steering Group will work closely with the Resident Scrutiny Panel and are responsible for scrutinising services identified by the Resident Scrutiny Panel. They will report findings with recommendations back for consideration to the Board (via the Scrutiny Panel).
Members will participate in panels, including the complaints panel, to ensure our residents voices are heard, and that the lessons learnt from these are acted on by the relevant departments. Members will also represent the Group at external events to make sure our residents’ voices are heard across the housing sector.
Both Groups will have a direct link to the Board – they will be a key part of how we improve as a business over the coming years. Although only a small number of residents are on the panels, we want every resident to have an opportunity to feed into scrutiny projects and services across the Group.
